Marjorine

My flight from NY to LA was delayed  6 hours. Had some work I told a partner I would get to him that night, so when I finally got to my place, it was 445am. I worked till 630am, and then sent him an email...

he first part of the email was coherent, but this is how it ended:

I'm just going to bed now (my hate for United is burning strong), so I'll be in in the afternoon when I can actually be productive. Please call if there is anything urgent.

thanks, and good evening.

Michael

And here is the last "Summary" on the page:

Assigns all tenant leases, of which various seemingly extendable upon their terms, as they will automatically renew. A list of all leases currently in effect should be requested, or else we should receive some reassurance that the 24 leases including in this document still remain in effect.

Smooth.

For some reason was thinking about my top 3 (really my only 3) true celebrity encounters. They are, in chronological order:

1. Marlon Wayans.

I see Marlon at the ESPN Zone in Times Square. He looks like he's hanging out away from his crew for a bit, watching a basketball game, so I decide to go over. I, approach, coming basically right up to him before he has to acknowledge my presence, and say "Hey Marlon, just wanted to say I really liked "White Chicks". He turns his head further towards me and I see he has an earpiece in, and was actually talking on his cellphone. This was in 2006, before such things were so common. Awkwardly, he says "thanks man", and starts to raise his hand towards me at the same time, from knee to hip. I, being two months out of Edmonton, assume he's going for the handshake, so I make the appropriate motion in return, which is to reach out to take the hand of the offeree. Of course, he being a black guy, and me being some random guy who's hand he doesn't want to touch, he goes for the fist bump. Here is a graphical representation:

2. Adam Sandler.

I'm playing basketball at the NYU gym with Dave, and randomly, Sandler is there playing 3 on 3. Dave and I call next (how could we not?). We pick up some guy to play as our third, and I call Sandler. I think I might even have said "I got Sandler", but I can't really remember. Midway through the game, in which he actually dropped his shoulder on me a couple of times for easy layups, I miss a close in shot over him.  He says some kind of trash talk to Dave, and the court in general, about how he's got me. My response: "I must have been blinded by your starpower". They went on to win the game.

3. Victoria Beckham.

I'm in the Santa Monica DMV, registering my car, and all these paparazzi are swarming. Victoria Beckham, Posh Spice, is taking her driving test. She makes them retake her license photo to redo her makeup, preens for the cameras (the paparazzi weren't allowed in, but her own video crew was), and blatantly cheats on her written test. I don't realize that this is a set-up publicity stunt for her coming to America special, and spend the next month telling people "I don't want to say Victoria Beckham cheated, but she totally cheated", until I find out I was on (inter)national tv with a reaction shot of me laughing at her antics.

Like butter.

I really hope Obama wins this thing

If you haven't read his speech, you should. He has what's called in sports (or at least the ESPN version) "tremendous upside potential." I think after the last 8 years, it's worth taking the chance.

Swimming with the dolphins

In Puerto Vallarta. It was pretty fun, something I had always wanted to do, but I wasn't blown away. The stingrays in the Caymans were cooler.

Good thing the clips are my (new) second favorite team

And the Suns are still my fave. Being a Clippers fan ain't easy!
